I rack off to the secondary and use a clearing agent like gelatin, sparkaloid or polyclar and most work within 3 to 5 days. Would love to know how your batch turns out. I use extracts to make my runs look professional.
I'm pretty sure for that to happen you should really push the heat boil the piss out of your wash turn it up and push it hardor add a gin basket to your tower, which carries the vapor through whatever fruit you add to it. The gin basket thingy I mean and I didn't think it was all that great. Like Scotty mentioned, I too found that the after the fact essence addition was the better to go. I guess with a goose neck tower and and a fruity wash with the pushing power of high heat you could force the flavor to come over.
I couldn't make it happen and make it paletable too, but I could have been doing wrong. But dont give up try er again and good luck. While I have never used the Alcotec I have used the Turbo 48 that Rick sells and I have never had a problem with clearing naturally. I do let it sit until it clears though and that takes upwards of a week sometimes. I have some Sparkalloid but I haven't used it yet. I am just not in a hurry I guess. It only took about 4 gal of h2o. SG started right at 1.
I'll let ya'll know in a day or two right now its still really getting at it. Hoping some of that pinapple carries over. Cracked the lid on the ole fermenter and yep, smells like pineapple, sure hope some of it carries over! I've just finished a sugar wash with Alcotec and used my airlock with no problems whatever.
I didn't wait for it to clear because my nephew was visiting from Houston and wanted some to take home, ran full reflux and was fair tasting. You cannot post new topics in this forum. You will have to let us know about the quality when you get it done. The nice thing well one of the many nice things about this hobby, is that you can take your time, and actually produce a spirit that is MUCH better than you can buy. The turbos are pushed hard by the brew shops for several reasons. They cost A LOT i.
They do work. You may not get the best results, but it will produce ethanol. They are pretty hard to screw up. There is SO much yeast and nutrients that unless you really over heat, or get the wash dirty, it will turn out with something. They are sold to people who dont know much better not their fault, anyone starting out in a hobby has a learning curve. I know there are people who have been doing turbos for a long time.
However, the majority of people using them are pretty new to the hobby. Thus, with new people, even if the resultant product is not too good, these new people will not know any different, or will figure they are no good at it an go do something else.
Most of the members here will direct you away from turbo washes, after you get your feet wet with a wash or 2. Post by firefly » Thu Nov 15, pm Thanks Husker I just wanna make some neutral Vodka and we will maybe add some essence when the time comes The places i've looked at, seem to sell only the turbo yeasts Post by firefly » Thu Nov 15, pm Where can I purchase these types of yeast The websites I just checked don't have any S: if I use 1 of the above yeasts to make a sugar wash Last edited by firefly on Thu Nov 15, pm, edited 1 time in total.
Post by Husker » Thu Nov 15, pm many wine shops should have those yeasts probably not the distillers yeast however. If all else fails, you might try brewhaus or milehigh distilling or some of the other internet sites. They should have some better yeast other than turbos. But keep in mind, that if using these yeasts, you WILL have to put more into your wash than simple sugar. Yeast needs nutrients also.
Last edited by Husker on Thu Nov 15, pm, edited 1 time in total. It has plenty of nutriants and just the right amount of PH. BUT it will ferment out quicker and make a better taisting shine if you don't use as much sugar as they call for. Post by firefly » Thu Nov 15, pm I got all my stuff at brewhaus Ill try to contact then and see if they have any So shady They also have a vodka yeast with AG, which I have not used, but I bet it produces a cleaner wash.
If you are doing neutrals, then the vodka yeast with AG will probably be better for you than the whiskey distillers yeast. You can do a google on "lavin ec yeast" and come up with 's of hits.
I have ordered from these guys before, and the yeast was fine. Thus, I simply get my yeast going, and from that point on, until I quit a product, I do not buy any more yeast, but simply rack the wash off the yeast lees, and start up a new wash right away. The yeast colony is huge, and very active. It will fire up quickly, as soon as it gets more sugar to eat. Thus, with a couple satchets of yeast, I might get runs out of it.
Excellent yeast for moonshine sugar wash. This yeast is an excellent yeast for simple sugar wash fermentations. Vodka Turbo Yeast has a low congener profile and a great sugar-to-ethanol conversion rate, making it the best yeast for vodka, high purity neutral spirits or moonshine alcohol. Rum Turbo Yeast uses a special profile designed to bring an aromatic and pleasant taste to your spirit, which is great for something like Rum designed to be sweet.
Excellent rum yeast to be used with molasses. This is the best yeast for rum. Whiskey Turbo Yeast uses a profile designed to work well with malted barley and grains for maximum yield. This yeast works great for single malt whiskey, bourbon, and even corn liquor. By far one of my favorites and one of our sellers. Heat Wave Turbo Yeast is perfect when fermenting in areas where fermentation temperatures are hotter than normal.
Designed to work in temperatures above the 80 Degrees F recommended for other yeasts. Pure Pot Still Turbo Yeast includes pectic enzyme packet inside which will work very well with fruits, making this yeast perfect for brandies, grappas, and ciders. Pectic enzyme helps with speeding up the extraction of fruit sugars in the fermentation process. Triple Distilled Turbo Yeast is designed to produce an ultra-clean fermentation process.
Step by Step Opening up fermentation bucket, and taking the temperature of the wash using a thermometer. Also what temperatures in the room that your fermenter is in. Are you in the zone? Stirring mash with a spoon and looking for anything still granulated or undissolved sugar.
